Frances Hodgson Burnett published « A Little Princess » in 1905. It echoes another work of the author written in 1888: “Sara Crewe, Or What Happened at Miss Minchin’s”.
This children’s novel retraces the journey of Sara Crew. The story takes places in the 19th century and it begins with little Sara Crewe traveling from the life she’s always known in India.
She’s living with her Father but is soon sent to be schooled like all proper British at Miss Minchin’s Select Seminary for Young Ladies in London.
Her father, Captain Crewe, is a renowned wealthy sailor who sends good and presents to his daughter every time he can.
At some point, Sara learns about her father’s bankruptcy, then death.
Both events leave her at the mercy of the evil Miss Minchin, impoverished, and alone.
Fortunately, Sara does not suffer all of her life under the hand of the cruel Miss Minchin. And she encounters many characters that will help her forge a touching personality that will stick with you throughout your reading.
Indeed, the young little girl will impress you with her vitality, her wide imagination and her bright intelligence.
