Capturing Light on Canvas

Today, I wanted to share how I capture the dance of light and shadow in landscape painting. I begin by choosing a warm, muted palette and mixing colors to reflect the subtle shifts in daylight, blending ochres with soft blues to create that natural glow.

Using gentle, intuitive brush strokes, I build up layers, allowing some areas to remain translucent to mimic the fleeting quality of light. I pay close attention to where shadows fall, contrasting cool tones against warm highlights to add depth and realism.

The key is not to replicate every detail but to express the atmosphere and emotion the light inspires. With practice, you’ll learn to see beyond shapes and paint the very essence of a moment caught in time.
