Coffee Spill and a Misread Smile
Laura was waiting in line at the busy city café, nervously practicing what she would say to Mark, the man she had noticed at work. When it was her turn, she ordered a coffee and tried to carry it carefully to his table. But her hands shook, and she accidentally spilled coffee on his coat.
"Oh my gosh, I am so sorry!" Laura said quickly, grabbing napkins. She looked up, expecting him to be angry. Instead, Mark smiled gently.
"No worries," he said kindly. But Laura, feeling embarrassed, thought the smile was fake or annoyed. She blushed and looked away.
Trying to fix the mood, she added, "I didn’t mean to ruin your coat or your day."
Mark laughed softly, "It’s okay, really. Happens to me all the time."
Their awkward first conversation started with a spill, but it also opened the door to a quiet understanding in busy city life.
