Living on the Edge of the City

Today, I’m talking with Lisa, a single mother living on the edge of the city. She works two jobs to support her family. Lisa, can you tell me how you manage your daily expenses?

Lisa: It’s really hard. I try to keep track of every dollar. After rent and bills, there isn’t much left. Sometimes I have to choose between food and paying for the bus.

Interviewer: That sounds stressful. How do you handle childcare while working so much?

Lisa: I’m lucky my sister helps with my son after school. Otherwise, it would be impossible. Childcare costs are too high for me to pay on my own.

Interviewer: What keeps you going through all this? Do you have any dreams for the future?

Lisa: I want a steady job with better pay. Maybe even a small place where my son can play outside. Living paycheck to paycheck takes so much energy. I just want a little peace and stability.

Interviewer: Thank you, Lisa, for sharing your story. It really shows what life is like for many people in busy urban neighborhoods.
