Lunchroom Rumors
At lunchtime, Mia sat at a table scrolling through her phone. Suddenly, a message popped up in the group chat from someone she didn’t know well. "Did you see Jake cheating on the math test?" it said. The message quickly filled with angry comments and insults from many classmates.
Mia looked up and saw Jake sitting alone, looking down at his tray. She felt bad because she knew Jake didn’t cheat. The rumors were just words on a screen, but their effect was strong at school. Mia’s stomach twisted. She wanted to say something but was scared to join the fight.
Her friend, Sam, came over and whispered, "Are you going to say anything? Everyone’s piling on him."
Mia thought for a moment and then typed, "I don’t think Jake cheated. Let’s wait for the teacher’s message first." Some people ignored her, but a few stopped writing.
After that, the messages slowed down, and Jake looked up, surprised to see Mia smiling at him. Standing up for a friend wasn’t easy. But Mia learned that even one voice can make a difference in stopping hurtful rumors.
