The Coffee Shop Misunderstanding

I went to my usual coffee shop after work, and it was really busy. When my name was called, I grabbed what I thought was my black coffee and turned to leave. The person behind me looked a little surprised, so I offered the drink, assuming it was theirs by mistake. "Here, I think this is yours," I said, smiling.

Instead of taking the coffee, the person frowned and said, "Excuse me? Are you trying to be funny?" I was confused and tried to explain, "No, I think I took your coffee by mistake. I just wanted to give it back." But they looked annoyed and said, "Well, I didn't ask for your help. Just stay out of it."

Other customers were watching, and I started to feel nervous. I didn't want to cause trouble, but I also didn't want to drink the wrong coffee. The person behind me didn't say much else, just stared without a smile. I wondered if I was wrong to offer the coffee at all.

Maybe they thought I was making a joke or being rude. But from my side, I was only trying to be kind in a busy place. It was an awkward moment, and we both left feeling a bit bad. Sometimes, small mistakes make big misunderstandings.
