The Digital Divide at Cedar High

Jamie saw the screen light up with angry comments. Alex, their close friend and one of the most popular students at Cedar High, had posted an old message that was hurtful to many. "How could he say that?" some students wrote. Others said they wanted nothing to do with him anymore.

Jamie felt torn. Later, Jamie found Alex sitting alone by the lockers. "People are really mad," Jamie said softly. Alex looked down. "I didn’t think about how it might hurt anyone back then," he admitted.

Jamie thought about the pain the comments caused but also about Alex’s apology. "I think you need to show that you’re sorry and learn from this," Jamie said. "But it’s okay to forgive people if they want to change."

By speaking to both sides, Jamie learned it’s important to take responsibility for mistakes and also to be open to forgiveness. It was a hard lesson, but one that made Jamie feel stronger and wiser about friendship and fairness.
