The Unseen Badge
The subway platform was crowded and noisy, with people rushing to catch their trains. Lily stood near the edge, glancing down the tracks, when she noticed a man with a white cane hesitating nearby. Without thinking much, she stepped closer and softly said, "Would you like some help?"
He smiled and replied, "Yes, please. It’s a a bit overwhelming here." Holding his elbow gently, Lily guided him through the crowd. As they moved together, she realized how invisible the obstacles could be for someone with a disability. The brief connection made her think deeply about her own fears — especially the anxiety that had held her back at work.
When they reached a safer spot, the man thanked her warmly. Lily felt a small courage growing inside her. "You know," she said, "I’ve been nervous to speak up, but I think I need to ask my company to improve accessibility. Not just for others but for people like you and me, too."
The man nodded. "It takes courage. But every step makes a difference."
As Lily watched him board his train, she felt ready to face her own challenges — one small step at a time.
